What is the significance of this figure of Buddha?
It's a happy fat Buddha figure sitting Criss Cross. In his left hand is an avocado looking for something. His right hand is resting on his right knee area, with its index finger pointing slightly outward. Does anyone know the significance of this particular? Thank you.
This fat, jolly figure represents the Chinese monk Budai, not Buddha. Budai was a monk of the Tang dynasty, which always lay in the city and made people happy. He carried a large bag of sweets that are distributed to everyone, especially children. If you look closely, you should be able to see the bag behind him. Budai Pu (also Hotei-tai or written) had an unusual ability to give accurate time estimates. At his death, was revealed to be an incarnation of the "future Buddha Maitreya.
