Dzi Beads from Tibet.

Dzi beads have many magical legends associated with them. Some believe that they were magically cast by the Gods or were the weapons of the Asuras. Nowadays to detect a real Dzi bead from a fake is a difficult prospect.
Some signs of a authentic Dzi bead and not a modern day replica from China or India

  • Rare red Cinnabar Marks
  • Coloring is consistent in the stringing hole
  • Stringing hole shows signs of wear and is not a nicely cut circle
  • Cracks are not uniform and blended with the background.
    • On many of the modern fakes, the cracks will be like cookie cutter stamped circles. This is a dead giveaway of a Fake Dzi bead
  • It is being given to you or is being sold for a very large amount
    • Real Dzi beads in excellent condition can easily fetch thousands of dollars or more. If you are being offered a ‘real’ Dzi bead for a few hundred dollars either it is not in great condition or is a manufactuered fake from India or China

However understand that even a fake can have power and can be purchased for a low price. It is the belief that you put behind the bead that is important.
