Buddha and the Spirits of the Earth

This gorgeous scene from the Life of Buddha depicts his meditation underneath the Bodhi Tree for six years during his quest for enlightenment.  Here the Lord of Delusion, Mara sends forth the Spirits of the Earth to attempt to tempt the Lord Buddha and divert his attention.  In response Lord Buddha simply places his right hand upon the Earth and asks the Earth whom does it serve.  Great tremors then arrive and Lord Buddha has his answer.

An original masterpiece from late 19th/early 20th century, certain to be an heirloom to be treasured for many generations
