What do the different forms of Chinese carved jade mean?

I know the forms, hand-carved Chinese jade support for different things. The animals of the Chinese zodiac are representing themselves, for example. But there are other ways … butterfly, glass, etc, and they told me that each of them had some meaning. I've looked everywhere I can think of looking online, with no answers. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

Yes, almost everything is symbolic of something in Chinese culture! It would take a thick book to begin to scratch the surface of Chinese symbolism and motifs! I've listed some common symbols and their general meaning: Butterfly – Emblem of happiness, the Bat symbol of summer – sounds similar to the nature of happiness: Fu (2). Emblem of happiness and longevity. The design of 5 bats is a pictorial hieroglyphic of the 5 "Blessings", ie old age, wealth, health, love of virtue and natural death (!). Often, the symbols of the bats are so decorative that apear to be butterflies. Flores – flowers Some represent different times of the year. For example, Peony: Primavera, Lotus Summer, Chrysanthemum: Autumn and Plum Blossom in Winter. Vase – The gift of a glass symbolizes "peace" as the sound of nature to glass is similar to the character of peace. Bamboo – commonly known as "friend of China". It is an emblem of longevity due to their hardiness and evergreen and blooms in all winter. No information online, I fear. Not that I know anyway. However, there are books you can rfer this matter. A standard reference volume many students from China / The Chinese culture is, "Symbolism and Art Motifss China" written by CAS Williams. ISBN 0-8048-1586-0. Explains key cultural symbols and contains interesting information on Chinese beliefs, customs, arts and crafts, food, medicine and so has this book and I think you will find it useful. I hope help!
