The term "Blanc de Chine" always used to describe this highly translucent porcelain produced in the famous kilns in Te Hua in China's Fujian province. Blanc de Chine does not sound Chinese, being French for "China White" Porcelain. But it was, of course, the French in the early 19th century gave us Chinese names of beautiful color glazes. Blanc de Chine is a creamy white to pure white porcelain, first produced during the last part of the Ming dynasty long, from 1368 to 1644. On a technical note, the white color of Blanc de Chine is due to iron deficiency (less than 0.5 percent iron oxide), in the clay extracted in Te Hua. Rich in quartz and kaolin, feldspar and Seri cite and low iron levels, leading to the production of this high quality white porcelain.

The first Blanc de Chine forms were objects of worship, such as incense burners, candlesticks, vases and figures of saints. These forms were consistent with the provisions officers of the early Ming period, not only in their whiteness, but also imitate the form of archaic ritual objects. Blanc de Chine is presented very well especially in the devotional figures of Buddha and Kuan-yin, the Goddess of Mercy, who was especially venerated in Fujian.

White porcelain has always been very popular with Chinese lovers home decor simple, practical and traditional. We should also mention that white is the color of filial piety, which has always been important for traditional Chinese culture. These forms of porcelain first part of the Ming period were made to achieve a perfect fusion of enamel and the body, traditionally called white as ivory and white milk.

Blanc de Chine is seen as an aesthetic style of porcelain, possibly more appreciated for the aesthetic minded collector / decorator, which is completely undecorated and rely totally on form, which is usually simple in style.

When Europeans discovered in the 17th century Chinese porcelain, large quantities arrived in Europe in Chinese export porcelain and were successfully copied at Meissen and mid 18th century in England, Chelsea and arch. ages 18 and 19 many European factories continued to play in the style of Blanc de Chine Porcelain.

When it comes to dating a piece of Blanc de Chine, can be difficult, as contemporary reign marks were not used and spare time are scarce. The result unchanged for long periods and the independence of the province ovens fashion does not offer many clues court by way of comparison with other ceramics produced in the century 17/18. Most of the information on this beautiful porcelain Te Hua white, comes to us from the records of trade, shipwrecks, chemical analysis and well-documented European collections.
