What is the name of the stone sculpture is uncut?

Do you know how stone carvers to carve stone sculptures .. His is a special kind of name for this type of stone. As a type of rock art. 20 points for whoever tells me the name.

The limestone, such as limestone Indiana, is a medium-soft stone with a granular texture, firmness and enjoyable. Stone carving is an ideal for many types of work, but does not allow for very fine detail and can not be polished. The tools mentioned above all work well with limestone. Bluestone, a fine-grained sandstone of Pennsylvania, is a bit harder than limestone and less compact but more layers. It may seem more natural in color and texture, especially if natural areas are left intact, but the risk that an entire layer is separated at work is quite high and makes it risky to work. Marble is working harder than limestone and bluestone, but allows for more details thin and can be polished. Granite is very hard work. The division consists of roughing cuts instead of cutting with a chisel. The elimination of any tools hand can be a torture, even when using expensive carbide-tipped tools! It is very hard, compact, strong and durable and can be polished to a high sheen. Alabaster is ideal stone for carving and very useful for beginners as well, but not easy to find and expensive. Soapstone is very soft and a good material for beginners, but as alabaster faces. Sometimes soapstone crumbles and scratches and breaks easily.

What can I use to paste a stone / marble chess piece carved back together?

I have a chess set of carved stone. It looks like the marble, but somehow one of the pieces were broken in half. There must be some kind of solvent to glue stone back together. Can anyone suggest anything more appropriate than simply old superglue?

Jerry M is the correct answer. Gorilla Glue works for a large number of applications including stone. Only be sure to moisten the two ends that stick with water and apply a drop to a piece. For this particular project wait a few minutes before joining, ie, we to get the hang of bad taste. Once the studs to join the two pieces and let dry. Gorilla Glue is a urethane and greatly extends as cures; This this, be sure to use only a drop, otherwise it will foam all over his room. There are also Loctite "Perfect Glue" that would be my first choice. These glues come in pefect Glue 1, 2, and 3. I think 3 is the ceramic and stone, if my memory serves me. This will not have the features of the expansion of Gorrilla and comes in a bottle similar to the super glues. Less money will be equally if not more lasting and effective. How can I find the stone / rock to carve? Where can I find size classes in Shreveport, Louisiana?

I would try to stone carving, but I do not know what I'm doing – Is there a way to find local sculptors for class? I've tried local schools, etc. but no luck. Moreover, I know you can buy soapstone, alabaster, etc. through the Internet and pay a ton of shipping, but is there any stone that can only lead and buy locally (or dig myself)?

There are stores in Metairie and Lafayette rock that can sell you different types of stone to practice. Probably other but do not know me. They can also tell you what kind of natural stone work in your area and where to find it. Try also serpentine. You may want to work its way to the marble, which is pretty relentless. Most good art shops can sell a carving tools. The Red River Sculpture Society includes some sculptors in Louisiana, and should be able to direct some lessons. They have a good website. Good luck.
