The term "Blanc de Chine" always used to describe this highly translucent porcelain produced in the famous kilns in Te Hua in China's Fujian province. The area along the Fujian coast was traditionally one of the principal centers of ceramics export. More than 180 kiln sites have been identified extending in a historical timeline of the Song Dynasty, 960-1279, to the present day.
Blanc de Chine does not sound Chinese, being French for "China White" Porcelain. But it was, of course, the French in the early 19th century gave us Chinese names of beautiful color glazes. Blanc de Chine is a creamy white to pure white porcelain, first produced during the last part of the Ming dynasty long, from 1368 to 1644. On a technical note, the white color of Blanc de Chine is due to iron deficiency (less than 0.5 percent iron oxide), in the clay extracted in Te Hua. Rich in quartz and kaolin, feldspar and Seri cite and low iron levels, leading to the production of this high quality white porcelain.
The first Blanc de Chine forms were objects of worship, such as incense burners, candlesticks, vases and figures of saints. These forms were consistent with the provisions officers of the early Ming period, not only in their whiteness, but also imitate the form of archaic ritual objects. Blanc de Chine is presented very well especially in the devotional figures of Buddha and Kuan-yin, the Goddess of Mercy, who was especially venerated in Fujian.

When it comes to dating a piece of Blanc de Chine, can be difficult, as contemporary reign marks were not used and spare time are scarce. The result unchanged for long periods and the independence of the province ovens fashion does not offer many clues court by way of comparison with other ceramics produced in the century 17/18.
