Vadodra (Baroda), the City of Palaces has often been called the cultural capital of Gujarat and is filled with vestiges of its princely past. It is also one of the capitals of companies with IPCL, ONGC and other major industries. There are numerous national and multi-national projects also coming.
Situated on the banks of the river Vishwamitri Vadodra (Baroda) is the capital city of the ancient rulers Gaekwad and is also known as the garden city of Gujarat. Baroda is the western derivative of the term, 'City Vadodra meaning 'of Banyan Trees'. This is an important cultural center of India, known for its art galleries and museums. Vadodra is located in the eastern part the state of Gujarat, and is a nice medium sized city.

Places of tourist interest in Vadodra:

Baroda Museum and Image Gallery
Founded by the Gaekwad in 1894, has impressive collections of art and archeology, natural history, geology and ethnology. It has an excellent collection of art objects and paintings, among them the famous bronze AKOTA 5th century AD treasures include a full gallery full of art Tibetan. Visit Maqbara, which is the oldest Mughal monument in the city.

Market Khanderao
This is a palatial building erected by Sayaji Rao in 1906-07, at a cost of around Rs. 5 lakhs. Laxmi Vilas Palace
Family Residence Real is an extravagant building in Indo-Saracenic style. The palace built by Maharaja Sayajirao in 1890 to date is the residence of the royal family. Its ornate Darbar Hall has a Italian mosaic floor and walls with mosaic decorations. The palace houses a remarkable collection of old armory and sculptures in bronze, marble and terracotta.

Sayaji Sarovar
The Sayaji Sarovar or lake Ajwa, 22 kms from the city is the main source of water. Formed by the damming of the river Vaghali Surya and Nala. The work on the system began in 1885 and was completed in 1890. The Ajwa gardens modeled on the famous Brindavan Gardens of Mysore. The illumination of the sources is a great attraction for tourists.

Darbar Hall
Considered one of the most famous museums in the country that was built in 1894. The gallery offers a fine collection of originals by famous British painters Turner and Constable and many others attract tourists from all over the country. The Egyptian mummy and skeleton of a blue whale are major attractions for visitors to the museum. Another treasure includes the famous AKOTA bronzes dating from the 5th century AD, a collection Mughal miniatures, a full-fledged gallery of Tibetan Art and oils by several European masters.

Kayavarohan
Popularly known as Karvan, which is located on National Highway No. 8. It is both a place of pilgrimage and a picnic spot. A beautiful Shiv Temple built homes recently Lakulish attractive idol. Sculptures and relics belonging to the 2nd century have been excavated from this historical place.

Pavagadh

Shukaltirth
The legend surrounding the Vishnu temple here on the banks of river Narmada. A fair is held every November in the center of pilgrimage, which is 89 km from Baroda.

Getting There:

By air
You can enter Vadodra on a domestic flight, and is well connected to the rest of the country by domestic airlines like Indian Airlines and Jet Airways. Airport Nearest international is about 100 kilometers from Ahmedabad.

By train
In Vadodra railway station you can hop on and off the super fast trains and first Shatabdi and Rajdhani Express as well as the travel of passenger trains humble. It is well connected with other parts of the country.

By Road
Vadodra is 112 kms. Ahmedabad and 420 kms. Mumbai.
